Thread: Xeb's UI

  1. #1
Figured I might get a post going with my UI here. Mine's going to be a bit different from most since I'm gaming across 3 screens and it really increases the amount of screen real estate you have to space addons out on.

Here's a shot of it out of combat:

Size:	706.8 KB

The image is pretty grainy zoomed in, but it's the best format I could get it uploaded in. The black bars I added in are roughly where the monitor bezel breaks are. The image is rendered underneath the bezel so you get a fluid transition when objects extend across more than one screen. WoW has quite good compatibility with nVidia surround, the only downside is the image gets a little bit stretched on the outside screens. Another thing which isn't really a downside is that the depth of field is not uniform across all 3 screens - objects render a lot further on the outer 2 screens.

I recently reworked the entire UI so I don't have any in-combat screens to share yet, but I'll try to get one posted tomorrow.

A quick breakdown of the addons visible in the picture:

Chatter - gives the chatbox a nice skin with lots of customization options
Recount - I use recount to track my latency and fps as well as dps. I have the raid dps window open usually because when alone it's a good way to get a live stream of what your dps spikes look like.
X-perl Unit Frames - I know a lot of people have an aversion to X-perl but it works for me since all it has to do is show me, what i'm looking at and what it's looking at lol.
Energy Watch - Customizable energy bar.
Bartender4 - I don't use any aftermarket all-in-one UI mods I just use bartender and MoveAnything to adjust action bars and other UI items.
    Omen
Sexy Map - A sexy map is a must for any UI.
TipTac - Not really visible but it's not combat related so I'll mention it. It's a tooltip replacement addon that really gives a snazzy feel to the standard Blizzard tooltips. You can also customize it to show character specs in the tooltip which is very useful for quickly determining who in the party needs tricks.. :P

I use a number of other addons that aren't visible out of combat and I will go into those once I have uploaded a raiding screenshot. Being able to put the chat window on a separate monitor opens up so much space on the main page, which helps maintain most UI elements close to the bottom of the page, with only the most important combat related addons extending up closer to the middle of the screen.

Any questions and comments are welcome!

I imagine your gaming desk to look like something off the Starship Enterprise.

Wouldn't it be better to raid on just one monitor? I mean 3 monitors is BA and all but it seems like turning your head every other second to check for this in the fight mechanics would get annoying.

the 3 monitor is pretty cool I dont see why not using them I would if I could you still see most of the stuff you would with the middle monitor but with other 3 you gain more sight overall from what i heard

You aren't that far off actually :P. Especially since my keyboard/mouse are lit up. I might post a pic of it at some point. The 3 monitors are only 23" each but when you put them all together it gets very very wide. Took me a while to find a desk to accommodate it all..

I have raided on one monitor for a very long time. I have to say when I first made the decision to go with a 3 monitor setup I was a little bit unsure as to whether or not it would enhance the raiding environment. After setting the whole system up and logging in all my fears were instantly gone. It's a totally amazing experience - almost like playing a different game. Because all the important action and UI elements are still on the center monitor, the other 2 monitors just extend your field of vision without detracting from the main monitor content. I rarely look at the other 2 monitors directly since that can lead to you missing something on the center screen.

It is actually very useful for noticing mechanics you would not normally see - your peripherals are very good at quickly picking up motion and changes in light patterns (think of the sensation where you could sear you saw something move in the edge of your vision) so you don't have to directly look at the monitor to pick it up. And in PVP it's quite interesting since you are essentially seeing to the left and right of your character it's nearly impossible for anyone to sneak up on you ;P

You don't keybind Evasion, Sprint, Cloak, Pot, Vanish, Kidney, Healthstone, Stealth and bloodfury?...

Nope. I have a bind for kick and tricks to the 2 side buttons on my mouse and that's it. I really don't like using keybinds at all. They work for some people but they just don't do it for me. Plus I don't need to have them keybound in order to use them quickly and effectively. I just mouse over and click on them when I need to. After years of competitive FPS it's not exactly a difficult procedure.

    keybinds > no keybinds

at least bind them and say their bound and continue to click letting people think they're bound

Heh. Not bad advice. This I shall do. That way I can continue to get away with my unconventionality and the non believers can rest easy.
